Who I am
My name is Esmeralda, many of my friends call me Essy though. I’m a crunchy, conservative, Catholic homeschooling mom of two. A Lay Carmelite. A part time photographer. We have been greatly blessed by the gift of adoption and am a big champion of life at ALL stages. Life is beautiful, even when it is messy and chaotic…that’s when God can do His best work...because that's when we are given the opportunity to step out in grace.
House on the Creek
I miss 'Casa da Ribeira'...that's the little village that I was born in. It is in the island of Terceira in the Azores, Portugal. I only lived there for the first five years of my life, so it is more the idea of it that I miss than the actual reality I guess. I miss the place where it's center was the little church where families gathered on Sunday and celebrated feast days together, I miss the place where extended families lived pretty much next door to each other and the neighbors were like family too. I miss the place that children could roam the streets safely, free to explore and grow in common sense. I miss the place where material things were not so abundant, but love sure was! The place where all food was organic and milk could be drank right from the cow. Where children got measles and other child hood illnesses and then grew immunity and moved on...but there were no such things as autism and adhd and odd and on and on. I miss the place where people turned to each other in tough times, not to the government. I miss how much common sense everyone had...and how respected the elders were...I know that it's different there now too. So there really is no where to turn when you miss something that others find so easy to throw away in the name of progress!
